Ore Preparation and Flotation
After grinding, the ore slurry undergoes flotation, a process that separates copper and gold minerals from waste rock. Chemical reagents are added to the slurry to make the metal particles hydrophobic, causing them to attach to air bubbles introduced into the flotation cells. The bubbles rise to the surface, forming a froth rich in copper and gold, which is skimmed off for further processing. The remaining tailings are disposed of responsibly.

Concentration and Smelting
The froth product from flotation is dewatered to produce a concentrate containing high grades of copper and gold. This concentrate is then transported to a smelter, where it is heated at high temperatures to separate impurities. During smelting, sulfur dioxide gas is captured and converted into sulfuric acid, while molten copper matte is formed. The matte undergoes further refining in converters to produce blister copper.

The final stage involves electrorefining, where blister copper is cast into anodes and placed in electrolytic cells. A current is passed through the solution, causing pure copper to deposit onto cathodes. Gold and other precious metals settle as slimes at the bottom of the cells and are recovered separately.
